Janelle In Real Life: i found my job on instagram.

i found my job on instagram.

I think it's high time I tell you guys about this new job of mine.
So here's the thing... I wasn't really looking for a job when I stumbled across this one. You see, I love being a stay-at-home mom. It's a lot of work, but I really do love it. We are lucky enough to be able to survive on just my husband's income, but this job was just too good an opportunity to pass up!
Let me tell you a little about my new boss. Her name is Ashley and she founded The Shine Project. It's an amazing company that employs inner city youth who want to earn money to go to college (and are often the first of their family to do so). These kids make gorgeous jewelry and are paid a fair hourly wage so that they can save their pennies for continuing their education. Ashley is such a sweet person and radiates kindness. She writes a blog and her posts are pretty and inspiring. I'm so unbelievable stoked to be able to work with her!
I've been following her blog and social media since last year, and I just think what she does is amazing. She's meshed two of my passions so well; fashion and making a difference. Several months ago I told my husband that she has my dream job!

Last month I saw a post on her instagram account (which has over 89,000 followers) about wanting to hire a few people. I jumped on that opportunity and sent her an email about why I thought I would be a good fit. I honestly didn't think I would hear back because, hello, 89,000 followers? She got several applications. I don't know why I stuck out to her, but I'm so glad I did. I have a passion for helping others and I'm looking forward to working for a company that promotes not only helping those in need, but encourages furthering your education.
Here's what I'll be doing:
I will attend fun events in Utah and represent The Shine Project. I get to sell this gorgeous jewelry that supports an amazing cause! I will absolutely be keeping you guys informed about what events I will be at so you can come visit and buy some bracelets to support at-risk teens who want to go to college!

And in fact, this Friday and Saturday, I'll be at the Utah Valley Women's Expo in Orem (at the uccu center at UVU)! I'll be there from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Friday (another girl will be there from 1-8 p.m.) and 11 a.m.-8 p.m. on Saturday and I would love to see you guys there! Tickets at the door are $6, but if you go to their website HERE to get tickets, enter the code "facebookfree" and it will give you tickets to print off for free!

Basically, I'm really excited to work for a good cause AND be able to provide some stylish accessories. I hope some of you can stop the events I'll be doing this summer! And for you bloggers, we're in talks about doing a Shine Project blogger party! I'll keep you updated as we make plans for that.
